I’m sorry to say that the work that introduced me to Heidegger is only available in German. But it looks like Günter Figal, whose introduction to Heidegger I read, has released one book in English language: http://www.amazon.com/Heidegger-Reader-Studies-Continental-Thought/dp/0253221277/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1288119152&sr=8-1 with nearly the same topic and agenda.

If it is similar in quality, it should give a great introduction to Heidegger, characterizing the main themes of his thought and their development throughout his life (also touching the time from 1933-1945).

Another plus of the author is that he is deeply involved into the very recent Heidegger research, and as Heidegger’s complete edition is still in the works with new editions and insights being released every year, it can’t be bad to have an up-to-date interpretation of Heidegger.

On a sidenote, Figal is also the chairman of the Martin-Heidegger-Society, so he probably is one of the best informed philosophers out there.
