J. S. Mill - On Liberty
It’s been quite a time since my last post. After studying John Stuart Mill’s essay “On Liberty”, I felt the desire to share some of his thoughts with you, for I think that, although the essay was published in 1859, it has lost little of its importance. The majority of people today still value their own moral beliefs higher than the liberty of others, and rarely hesitate to enforce their own views on others.
There is a limit to the legitimate interference of collective opinion with individual independence: and to find that limit, and maintain it against encroachment, is as indispensable to a good condition of human affairs, as protection against political despotism.
Here is another quote in favor of liberty and diversity I’ve found by - Nietzsche!
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.
